Listening is HARD!

Have we talked lately? If so, I guarantee I interrupted you. I stink at listening. I've been an avid talker my whole life, but never much good at listening. My ego is definitely part of the problem. Even if I claim to want to be a life-long learner and acknowledge that one learns almost nothing while doing all the talking, I haven't been able to shut my mouth long enough to learn much in these first 23 days of the year.

My "word" for 2017 is supposed to be LISTEN. I was introduced to the concept of choosing a word for the year by a friend. Shortly after she shared her words with me--apparently you can have two if you are really mature--I decided I needed a word for the year, too, and it needed to be LISTEN. I found the wonderful words of James 1:19 in the Amplified Bible and created this pretty meme, made it my screensaver, and went right back to talking every chance I got. Apparently declaring something AND making a meme are not the only steps to changing 46 years of behavior.

By the way, some of you are not helping me with my goal. I really don't want to listen to you right now. You are so negative and cynical and your Facebook timeline makes me want to tackle you and force you do restorative yoga with me until you finally remember how to breathe and say something kind.

So, please, let's all begin to talk nice again. It will really help me with my listening.
